West Pointers helped lay the groundwork for America's economic development, intellectual growth and territorial expansion in the years before the Civil War. Using objects, images and short biographical sketches, this section of the online exhibition entitled "West Point in the Making of America'' , from the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History, teaches students how West Point Graduates played a major role in westward expansion and the development of the nation's transportation network and advances in technology between 1802 and 1860.
