Reviewer Comments:

This comprehensive five to seven lesson thematic unit is targeted for 1st grade and appropriate for early elementary students. It begins with an age-appropriate pre-assessment that is mirrored at the end of the unit with a complementary post-assessment. Each lesson is aligned with the Georgia Performance Standards and includes clear objectives, procedures, evaluation, accommodations, and enrichment suggestions. Content covers a study of maps and globes as well as a focus on ocean animals and their adaptations. The unit uses a nice combination of discussion, demonstrations, art and hands-on investigations. The teacher would be responsible for the initial gathering of reference materials; however, the author provides ample bibliographic information to get that process started.
