Description:

Project based learning from bie.org. Your team members are the owners of a new water company, the Heavenly Water Company. You will be collecting data on customer water choice and investigating why they choose that type of water (tap water and different bottled water). Group and community comparisons will include water selection and based on taste, appearance, presentation, and cost. Data will be collected on several questions, both numerical and categorical, and will be graphed in different formats; measures of central tendency and percentages will be calculated.

This 3-week project based unit has students collect and evaluate data regarding drinking water. Students perform a variety of tasks including: writing numbers in scientific notation, calculating percentages; collecting, graphing and evaluating data; as well as creating a hypothesis and writing a proposal. The unit provides a time table and all necessary support documents. Answer keys are not provided as data will be unique to each group. Rubrics and reflection sheets for assessing are also included. The unit is well organized and complete.
