Description:

This field trip takes students to the valley of Trout Creek in the Rocky Mountains in Chaffee County, Colorado, along U.S. Route 285 east of Buena Vista and west of Hartsel. Photos and maps, accompanied by written narrative and thought questions for students, explain how the underlying geology of the area (resistant limestones and sandstones) has preserved a wide, flat-bottomed valley in an area otherwise characterized by mountainous terrain.
