Description:

Tracheids in conifer wood can be easily separated and their lengths measured with a light microscope. This workshop illustrates the techniques for macerating the wood and staining, mounting and measuring the tracheids. Mean tracheid length is different for each conifer species, therefore this laboratory can be expanded into a larger scale comparative measurement exercise.
