Use this virtual manipulative to explore the effects of performing two sequential transformations on a shape. Transformations include translation, rotation, and reflection. The student forms shapes on the screen with trapezoids, squares, hexagons, parallelograms, and triangles. Six colors are available to add interest when creating shapes. A grid axis can be added to the screen to help students see the effects of the transformations more clearly. Two activities are featured in which a spaceship shape appears on the screen, along with two suggested transformations. The student must adjust the translations parameters so that the spaceship is transformed to match a spaceship outline also displayed on the screen. Instructions for using the manipulative along with a link to the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) Standard for Geometry are included. Copyright 2005 Ohio State University
