Rumen Shopov is a concertmaster and tambura soloist of the famous Nevrokopski Ensemble for National Songs and Dances, the oldest Bulgarian professional folk ensemble. Shopov is also a representative of the ancient Rom or Romani musical tradition. The Rom people, who are sometimes called “gypsies” by outsiders, came originally from India a thousand years ago and are now spread through much of Europe and beyond.
