The purpose of this lesson is to expose students to multiple regions around the world and give students the opportunity to integrate technology in the presentation of their work. By allowing students to focus on one region, they will gain a deeper understanding of the physical and cultural characteristics and retain more information. For the presentation of this project, students will learn how share information using a Wiki.

Introduction:
 

This lesson is intended to be the last step in a unit; students have previously been put into groups, assigned a region to research, and gathered research on their topic. Before lesson: -You will need to create a classroom wiki and add member usernames
 

Group Size: Small groups
 

Learning Objectives:
 

By the end of this lesson, students will gain awareness of the physical and culutral characteristcs of a specific region. Students will be able to use this knowledge to compare and contrast the different societies/civilizations.
 

Guiding Question:
 

Describe the physical and cultural characteristics of the assigned region. How is this region different to others around the world? How are they similar?
 

Materials:
 

-Computers -Classroom Wiki
 

Procedures:
 

  • Introduce Wiki. Show students how to add text, pictures, etc.
  • Students will organize previously gathered research on their assigned region. They will work in their small groups to determine what they should include on the Wiki page.
  • Students will login to the wiki at www.wikispaces.com and enter username and password.
  • Students will begin editing the wiki to include the information they choose.
  • Groups will present their wiki to the class.
Assessment:
 

Students will be assessed by two methods: -Group evaluations (students will be required to write a short review of each group member) -The ending project will be evaluated using a rubric.
