Reviewer Comments:

This three week unit designed for AP English is clearly laid out in an Excel spreadsheet, allowing for additions by individual teachers. The goal is for students to construct personal allegories, incorporating style, figurative language, thematic connections with epic literature/Scripture/Dante/Milton and symbolism. The lesson plan is explicit for the first three days of instruction – incorporating class discussion, pair discussion, Q & A, independent analysis, assessment (graphic organizer, ) and other best practice strategies. Sometimes prayer is included in the daily opening, as this unit was written for a Catholic school and can be used anywhere. Reference is made to the existence of formative assessments in Word documents, but are not part of this resource.
