Description:

This Demonstration carries out simulations related to the unwinding of DNA/RNA by a helicase motor protein, using the models described in [1]. Essentially, a simulation is carried out for two colliding (one-dimensional) random walks, which may be interpreted as DNA/RNA unwinding by a helicase motor protein. In certain limits, however, the model is equally applicable to force generation via actin or tubulin polymerization. More generally, this is a Brownian ratchet.
