The purpose of this unit is to allow students to become comfortable using a microscope and explore possibilities of its use in the world today. The students will gain knowledge and skills to properly use a compound light microscope, differentiate between the uses of a hand held lens, stereoscope and the compound light microscope, investigate the history of the development of the microscope and its uses today, and design an experiment using the microscope to test a cleaning product claim. Upon completion of this activity, students will be able to determine magnification when using the compound light microscope.
