Description:

In this activity, students will explore the types of ocean sensors employed at the Coastal Ocean Observatory Laboratory (COOLroom) and how scientists interpret ocean data collected from sensors to understand the coastal ocean. Students will view a video about the Long-term Ecosystem Observatory and answer some questions. They will then explore information about the meteorological (weather) tower, satellite temperature images, the Conductivity-Temperature-Depth (CTD) device, Sea-viewing Wide Field-of-view Sensor (SeaWiFS), Coastal Ocean Dynamics Applications Radar (CODAR), and the life cycle of an upwelling event and answer questions about each.
