For our use in faculty collaborations and knowledge exchange, a Student Persona is a description of an archetypal student. Each Student Persona has a name and is a specific, vivid description about the student’s “learning story and life story”: background, context, existing knowledge and skills, challenges, attitudes, and personality. This two page guide illustrates how Student Personas can be used in design projects and in explaining the target audience for a learning resource or teaching intervention. The examples are drawn from a collaboration in developmental mathematics across five institutions of the California State University.
