The Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) conducts research in coastal ocean and estuarine science, provides educational materials and opportunities, and provides advisory service to policy makers, industry, and the public. The VIMS home page features overviews of its research activities in environmental and aquatic health, fisheries, coastal climate change, and many other disciplines. The education page describes opportunities for graduate students at the VIMS School of Marine Science and provides an overview of the Virginia Sea Grant Marine Education program, which offers resources and services in ocean sciences education. Resources for educators include the Bridge, a clearinghouse of online resources, and ChesSIE, a source of educational materials for teachers in the mid-Atlantic area. The resources page features links to the VIMS library, a web interface and search engine that enables users to search library holdings, and links to datasets on salinity, temperature, quality of Chesapeake Bay waters, and meteorological and other types of data.
