Reviewer Comments:

In this activity, sixth grade students are asked to design an effective water filter. There is good attention given to alignment with the California Common Core Standards and Next Generation Science Standards, although the procedure itself could use more expanded detail. The general plan is that students will collaborate and build a water filter, test it, and then improve their design. The lesson references a Data Table “also in the Curriki folder” which does not appear to exist. It would also be good to have more clarity around quantifying the results of “will clean the water the best” and the day 2 redesign as formative assessment. Finally, providing some structure as students “research water filtration online” would be helpful. Overall, this is a great idea, but the curriculum would need some improvements before another educator could easily and effectively implement this lesson.
