This is a comprehensive, creative, and organized unit plan that teaches students about nature-based tourism (ecotourism) and the cause and effects this industry has on humanity and vice versa. The unit plan integrates Social Studies, Science, and Language Arts standards and includes objectives, vocabulary words, suggested field trip, graphic organizers, technology applications and much more. There are five individual lesson plans that provide teachers with step by step directions on how to implement the activities, supplemental resources, and suggested accommodations for students with special needs. Highlights of this unit are a class conservation effort and ePals (electronic pen pals) to learn about other areas of the state. This unit is specific to the state of Georgia. However, the lessons could easily be adapted for other geographic areas. Note, one key link (http://streaming.dicoveryeducation.com) has a typo. The unit requires registering on various websites for access and it is recommended that sites are navigated prior to implementation.
