Reviewer Comments:

This thorough and specific resource is a three day lesson plan plus extensions designed to teach and reinforce comprehension, using the QuIP strategy. QuIP represents a graphic organizer divided into three columns: Question (to explore), Source (i.e. internet, book title) and Answer (recorded notes). Once these notes are recorded, the lesson guides students in how to use them to create summarizing paragraphs. The strategy is taught using a whole group lesson through explanation and demonstration, a guided application of the strategy and finally, individual or small group facilitated practice and reflection. Groups are created with students of like needs. Each group participates in a: teacher guided small group, a student facilitated comprehension center (writing, music, internet) and a student-facilitated comprehension routines (based on the Guided Comprehension Model by Maureen McLaughlin and Mary Beth Allen).
