Description:

The Whale Song Project uses participants to help categorize the calls of killer whales and pilot whales to help scientists better understand their communication. Users are presented with a call and shown where it was recorded on the map. The call is represented as a spectrogram, which shows the shape of the sound. The participant can then click on the spectrogram to hear the call itself. The site offers much background information about the animals and the problem they face in today's sound-polluted oceans.
