Description:

The Wimshurst machine, invented by James Wimshurst around 1880, is an electrostatic induction device for generating high voltages by separation of charges. Two insulated disks rotating in opposite directions induce opposite charges in one another. Metallic leads conduct charges to two spheres, which produces a spark when the breakdown voltage is exceeded.
