Reviewer Comments:

This is an ambitious and complicated unit that uses life finances as a palette for learning about life, and incidentally, algebra. Students are fully immersed into all the financial matters of their (imaginary) parents’ lives. They must manage a budget for a year. They are assigned (randomly) different gross incomes and must make due. One necessary lesson they derive is the relationship of income to struggle. The second half of the unit uses these concepts to force some pre-algebra onto the students. By this point, they understand the use of these concepts.
