Reviewer Comments:

This resource uses the term “participatory culture,” coined by media scholar Henry Jenkins. The idea is for students to identify how they see themselves as readers and writers and how others see them relative to the practices they engage in. The big idea is to examine how our social and cultural contexts shape our everyday live and the ways in which we read and write. Text is looked at as something that needs to be interpreted. The purpose and reason we have for reading and writing affects what we read and write. This self reflective lesson is rich with potential and clearly laid out.
